Arizona

Under ACT's data partnership agreement with the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), the agency provides data on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS). This information is used to identify and recognize higher performing schools in the state annually, based on the most recent three years' performance on value-added growth and on the percentage of students reaching advanced academic standards.

In addition, test scores in Grade 7 are linked to EXPLORE scores and this link is used to identify College and Career Readiness Targets in Grades 3–7. This information is then used to produce College and Career Readiness Charts for Arizona public schools.

Core Practice Research

ACT is currently conducting a research study with Arizona educators on the practices essential to academic growth and college and career readiness. This study is part of a larger, five-year research project that will encompass areas of practice in addition to the use of student data. Our results will be analyzed to identify those education practices at the classroom, school and district levels that maximize students’ preparation for college and careers. We will build case studies from selected schools and districts, and our findings will be used to enrich the effective schools information published by ACT, Inc.
