ACT: The Solution to College and Career Readiness in Texas

The Texas Education Agency (TEA), in collaboration with ACT, is making the College Preparation Assessments-Texas Education Code 39.0261-available to the schools in your district. As a result, ACT's College and Career Readiness System-EXPLORE® for grade 8 students, PLAN® (the pre-ACT) for grade 10 students, and the ACT for grade 11 students-are available to you at no cost.

About EXPLORE®

The EXPLORE® program is designed to help 8th graders explore a broad range of options for their future. EXPLORE® prepares students not only for their high school coursework, but for their post-high school choices as well. It marks an important beginning for a student's future academic and career success.

About PLAN®

The PLAN® program helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.

About the ACT®

Quick Facts about the ACT®

  • The ACT is accepted at all four-year colleges and universities in the United States, including the NCAA®.
  • The ACT tests are curriculum based and directly related to what is taught in high school courses.
  • Because the ACT tests are based on what is taught in the high school curriculum, students are generally more comfortable with the ACT than they are with aptitude tests or tests with narrower content.
  • Students' scores are based on the number of right answers, with no penalty for guessing.
